Patient airlifted with life-threatening injuries after off-roading rollover accident south of Bonney Lake

UPDATE: A 17-year-old boy from Bonney Lake called 911 to report he had rolled his 1987 Mazda pickup while carrying five passengers, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. The accident was on an off-road vehicle trail between 130th Street Court East and 198th Avenue East. The driver told deputies he lost control of the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s department.

Three passengers in the back of the truck were ejected during the crash. One of those was the airlifted patient, an 18-year-old man from the Bonney Lake area.

Another was a 16-year-old girl from the Bonney Lake area who was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma with critical injuries.

INITIAL POST: Crews were called just after 5 p.m. to a rollover accident near the 14200 block of 215th Avenue East south of Bonney Lake.

The vehicle had been off-roading in the woods, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Rescuers had to use wildland rescue equipment to reach the two patients.

One was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, according to East Pierce. The other was driven to a hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
