A 41-year-old transient was arrested in Tacoma Monday after allegedly hitting another man in the head with a hammer.

The attack occurred about 4:25 p.m. outside a restroom in the 1800 block of Dock Street.

Officers responded and found the 62-year-old victim suffering from serious head wounds. The victim, also a transient, told police an argument sparked after his attacker asked for change.

The man with the hammer told officers he was angry at the victim because he thought the victim had thrown dirt in his dinner last week, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.
