A fifth person has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping, robbery, beating and strangulation of a Lakewood man whose body was dumped outside a new home in Graham last month.
Pierce County sheriff’s investigators took a 23-year-old man into custody late Monday. The News Tribune is not naming him because he has not yet been charged with the crime.
He is the sixth accused in the death of 51-year-old Dean Barker, whose body was found Sept. 8 outside a home in the 22200 block of 124th Avenue East.
Four have appeared in court and were ordered jailed in lieu of $2 million. They are William Barry, 34; Angela King, 24; Justin Mahaffey, 23; and Aileenah Horton, 17. An arrest warrant has been issued for Jeffrey Wayne Powell II, 30.
All are expected to be charged today.
A motive has not been verified but some of the defendants told detectives they killed Barker because they thought he had molested Barry’s 3-year-old daughter and sexually assaulted Horton and King.
