UPDATE: The man was identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office Tuesday as 80-year-old Ivan Nesteruk.

INITIAL POST: A 79-year-old Kent man was killed this morning while crossing a busy road.

The accident happened just before 6 a.m. in the 14300 block of Southeast Kent Kangley Road, which is a thoroughfare connecting south east King County to the Kent Valley.

The man was trying to cross the five-lane road and stepped in front of a vehicle driven by a 63-year-old man. The driver was not injured.

“At this time it appears that the pedestrian simply chose to cross this busy roadway while less than a block from a marked cross walk and traffic signals,” Kent police Assistant Chief Pat Lowery said.

The pedestrian has not been identified.
