A toddler who drowned in Spanaway Lake Tuesday night has been identified as 1-year-old Anthony Shutt.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy today.

Anthony’s 9-year-old brother discovered him in the water about 7:15 p.m. and screamed for help. A neighbor in a rowboat began CPR on the boy until paramedics arrived and took him to St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, where Anthony died an hour later.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said the toddler somehow got out of his house in the 17100 block of 6th Avenue Court South and into the water.
