Police arrested a “highly aggressive” man armed with a .44 magnum handgun and an assault rifle in East Tacoma early this morning.
According to Tacoma Police, officers were called to the 1400 block of East 32nd Street at about 1 a.m. to investigate an assault at gunpoint.
According to the victim, the suspect had held a large handgun to his head and threatened to kill him. The suspect was last seen running west on East Wright Avenue from Portland Avenue.
Officers requested a canine unit and tracked the suspect to where he was hiding in the brush a short distance away. Police say he was armed with a loaded .44 magnum handgun, several speedloaders and an AK mini assault rifle with two fully loaded magazines.
The man was taken into custody without incident, police said, despite his making several threats to kill officers if he had the opportunity.
Police received several “shots-fired” calls earlier in the evening, which they believe to be associated with the same man.
