UPDATE: Police spokesman Mark Fulghum said the soldier remains at large. Fulghum also clarified exactly what happened. The soldier grabbed his gun and was using it or his fist to break out the windows in his pregnant girlfriend’s car. The gun went off at one point as he was striking one of the windows, Fulghum said.

PREVIOUS POST: Tacoma police are searching for a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier who shot at his pregnant girlfriend Thursday night while she vandalized his truck after finding him with another woman.

The soldier, who lives in Lacey, was dog-sitting for a friend at an apartment complex in Tacoma when his girlfriend decided to stop by and surprise him. Police said she found him drinking with another woman and several friends.

The girlfriend allegedly began to damage the soldier’s truck. He retrieved a handgun from his truck, fired a single bullet through her car windshield and fled on foot with the other woman.

Police conducted a K-9 search in the area and used a Washington State Patrol aircraft but officers could not locate them.

JBLM officials and Lacey police have been advised of the incident.
