Two engine companies and a fire boat were dispatched to Point Defiance Park this morning after several people reported seeing flames in a remote area off Five Mile Drive, the Tacoma Fire Department reported.

Firefighters discovered a small fire burning  in a snag tree and brush about 4:30 a.m. and extinguished it, the department reported. The cause was not determined. Park officials later cut down the snag, firefighters said.

No firefighters were hurt and no buildings threatened.

Five Mile Drive was closed for a time while firefighters did their work.
