A 48-year-old man who caused a head-on collision in Bonney Lake Tuesday that seriously injured a woman has pleaded not guilty to vehicular assault.

Larry Duban entered his plea during his arraignment Wednesday.

The collision occurred in the 24800 block of state Route 410. Washington State Patrol troopers said Duban made a sudden U-turn and crashed head on into a 1989 Mazda 929 that had been heading in the same direction.

Duban was allegedly driving drunk.

According to charging papers:

Troopers arrived to find Duban standing beside his 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck and firefighters trying to extricate the other driver from her car.

The woman driving the Mazda suffered a broken ankle, laceration to her forehead, several cuts and a deep laceration that extended from her shin to the middle of her thigh.

Duban initially denied he had consumed alcohol but eventually admitted to troopers that he had been drinking at a friend’s house. He was not injured in the crash.
