Tacoma police are searching for a 28-year-old man suspected of choking his pregnant girlfriend until she passed out Tuesday night.

The assault occurred about 8:20 p.m. at a home in the 900 block of South Grant Avenue.

The victim told officers that her boyfriend threw her down and choked her into unconsciousness. It’s unclear what prompted the incident.

The man recently bought a handgun and could be suicidal, police said. He fled the home before officers responded and has not been arrested.
