A transmission line failed in Tacoma this morning, knocking out power to about 6,000 homes.

The outage occurred just before 6 a.m. and impacted neighborhoods south of the Tacoma Mall up to about 72nd Street.

“It affected a pretty big area,” Tacoma Public Utilities spokeswoman Chris Gleason said.

Electricity was restored to most homes by about 7 a.m.
