Residents of Pacific take first official step to try to recall Mayor Cy Sun

Residents of Pacific filed a statement of charges against embattled Mayor Cy Sun about 3:30 this afternoon.

The allegations will go from the King County Elections Office to prosecutors, who will file a petition in King County Superior Court, said attorney Jeff Helsdon, who represents the Committee to Recall Cy Sun.

If a judge rules that the misconduct as alleged would be grounds for a recall, the committee will have 180 days to collect roughly 450 signatures to put the issue on a special election ballot, Helsdon said.

Should Sun appeal the decision, collecting signatures will be delayed pending a Supreme Court decision, Helsdon said.

Sun has fired multiple city employees, and the city’s insurance provider has said it will cease coverage at the end of the year.

Residents asked Sun to resign at a meeting in June.
