The body recovered from the Puyallup River on Saturday has been identified as 29-year-old Josh McNamara, of Buckley.
McNamara disappeared July 8 while floating downriver on an inner tube near Orting. Friends climbing out of the water said they saw him one minute and when they turned around, he was gone.
A three-day search with divers, cadaver dogs and a helicopter turned up no trace of McNamara or his inner tube.
Although he was presumed dead, McNamara’s family and friends continued the search on their own time.
Two fishermen spotted his body Saturday morning while scouting for a spot to cast their rods along the riverbank near Levee Road and 70th Street East in Fife.
Authorities believed Saturday it was McNamara’s body discovered in the water, but the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified him this morning.
