A man who collects smart phones was robbed in a parking lot Wednesday night by two men he had planned to buy phones from, Tacoma police said.

The victim arranged to meet two men about 10 p.m. in the Fred Meyer parking lot, 4505 S. 19th St. When he arrived, one of the suspects demanded to see the victim’s money before agreeing to show him the smart phones.

The victim refused, and one of the suspects pulled out a gun.

The victim then began running across the parking lot and was tackled by the suspect. During the struggle, the victim bit the suspect’s arm.

He was able to jot down the suspect’s license plate number as they fled and called police to report the incident. Officers went to the address of the registered owner and arrested one of the suspects.

The second suspect and a woman spotted in the vehicle as it fled are still at large.

“Collects smart phones”? Would “fences” be a better word?

A legit collector of anything at 10:00 at night in the middle of the Fred Meyer lot?

Oh, this doesn’t pass the smell test.

  2. mojjonation says:

No mention of whether or not this was a Craigslist deal. I’m guessing yes.

  3. cylhentz says:

A friend of mine works for the police department and has said repeatedly that any CL deal over $100 should be transacted in the parking lot of the Tacoma Police station (in the old Costco building) on Pine St. Also, probably not after dark… duh.

    Common Stacia !

    Really ?

This is a transaction between Losers and nothing else.

  5. nonstopjoe says:

Why should the police get involved in something like this? Sounds like a bunch of thieves trying to rip each other off.

Why is the guy who wanted to buy the phone a loser? Am I missing something? I assumed he probably fixes them and resells them. Is there some new thing people so with smart phones?
