CLEARED: Brush fire shuts down ramp from eastbound State Route 16 to southbound Interstate 5

UPDATE as of 7:50 p.m.: Tacoma Fire says they’re leaving the brush fire between east SR 16 and south I-5, and that the ramp is reopened. The fire is under control.

7:13 p.m.: The fire is just about under control, and the ramp should reopen in about 15 minutes, according to Tacoma Fire. Construction workers saw a blaze at the same location late this morning from where they were working, and were able to put it out with a fire extinguisher, according to Tacoma Fire. Officials were called back to the scene about 6:30 p.m. No one was injured, and the cause is not yet known.

INITIAL POST: Crews have shut down the ramp from eastbound State Route 16 to southbound Interstate 5 as they fight a brush fire between the two freeways.

Further details were not immediately available. Check back for updates.
