A 14-year-old boy was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver Monday in Federal Way.

The boy was riding his skateboard about 5:30 p.m. in the 300 block of S 304th Place when the vehicle careened around a corner and hit the boy.

“He landed on the hood and then they stopped and it threw him quite a distance,” said the boy’s mom, Teri Hyatt-Oushani. “Then they peeled out. They just hit him and left.”

She said her son curled into a ball the instant he was hit, so he did not see the vehicle or the driver.

Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said there are no suspects.

The boy was initially taken to St. Francis Hospital but is now resting at home.

I worry about the kids on skateboards. They really have to assume that drivers are careless. I had a boy dart out from between parked cars, in front of me, on a board the other night, well after sunset, in all black clothing. Fortunately, being paranoid of such an occurrence, I tend to drive 20 miles an hour through residential streets. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for this young man.
