A 19-year-old man who drowned at Lake Tapps Sunday has been identified as Marcus Weekly.

Weekly, of Kent, was swimming at the north end of the lake at Pierce County Park when he went under the water about 5:20 p.m.

Divers from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and East Pierce Fire & Rescue pulled Weekly from the bottom of the lake. Officials said he was underwater for more than 15 minutes before he was rescued.

Weekly was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 9:30 p.m.

It’s unclear what caused him to slip beneath the surface.

This is sad, but this water is cold people! It is glacial water, not the same as Lake Washington or other lakes in the area. Precautions need to be taken while swimming in Lake Tapps.
