UPDATED: Water rescue in progress at Lake Tapps

UPDATE: The swimmer was located and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died about 9:30 p.m., Troyer said. He is from Kent.

INITIAL POST: Divers are searching for a 19-year-old man who went underwater at Lake Tapps about 5:20 p.m., Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The man was last seen about 30 feet off shore, Troyer said.

The water rescue is in progress at the north end of the lake at Pierce County Park, according to East Pierce Fire and Rescue. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the Valley Regional Fire Authority are involved, according to East Pierce.
