Collision on I-5 blocking northbound traffic

UPDATE at 10 p.m.: A Tacoma Fire Department official says seven people were taken to local hospitals after the wreck, which involved multiple vehicles. None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening, said Battalion Chief Dave McRoberts.

No details yet from the state patrol on the cause of the collision.

UPDATE at 4:30 p.m.: All lanes are now open, according to WSDOT.

UPDATE at 4:15 p.m.: The state Department of Transportation now says all lanes are blocked. Officials are detouring drivers onto the 38th Street exit.

Police and fire officials are responding to a collision on northbound Interstate 5, near the Tacoma City Center exit.

The state Department of Transportation says the two left lanes are blocked. The Washington State Patrol, Tacoma Fire and WSDOT are on scene.
