A funeral for the 24-year-old Department of Natural Resources diver who died on the job last week will be held Sunday.

David Scheinost of Puyallup went missing while diving near Bainbridge Island July 24. His body was recovered three days later.

Scheinost was hired in February as a geoduck compliance diver.

The public is invited to attend the funeral, which will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Auburn Adventist Academy Church.

Scheinost was known by friends as “Davey Doom” and had a positive and outgoing demeanor, his family said in a statement Thursday. He was living in Tacoma with his girlfriend at the time of his death.

A Boeing Employees’ Credit Union account has been set up in Scheinost’s name to help his family with expenses. Donations can be made at any BECU branch.
