A 23-year-old man suspected of firing a shotgun at two Auburn police officers was arrested early this morning.

Police were about to contact a suspicious male at 12:45 a.m. in the 100 block of 11th Street SE when the man allegedly shot at the first officer, striking the driver’s side windshield as the officer tried to get out of his patrol car.

The man then fled south on foot.

A second officer arrived to help and was also shot at in the 1200 block of A Street SE. His driver’s door was hit.

The officer fired a single round as the man fled east.

Police later found the man hiding in a yard in the 100 block of 12th Street SE. A shotgun was recovered near him.  It’s unknown why he opened fire on the officers.
