UPDATE 3:55 p.m.: Deputies found the man hiding in a vacant chicken coop in the 4900 block of 96th Street East, said spokesman Ed Troyer. A K-9 was sent in to get him, and medical aid is on the way to check the suspect before he is booked on multiple charges, Troyer said. A citizen contacted authorities when he noticed his coop was forced open, Troyer added.

INITIAL POST: Authorities have surrounded a wooded area in Summit and are searching for wanted felon who is believed to be armed, according to Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.

The 36-year-old man, who has multiple warrants for his arrest, fled into the woods near Vickery Avenue East and 96th Street East just before 2 p.m.

A K-9 unit is being brought in to track the felon. A Washington State Patrol plane is also joining the search.

The man is a known car thief, has nine felony convictions and escaped from community custody, Troyer said.

Deputies tried to stop him this afternoon but he fled into the nearby woods.
