The funeral for a former South King Fire & Rescue firefighter who died of cancer last weekend will be held Saturday at a Federal Way church.

John Moncrief, 59, died of a cancer known to be caused by long-term exposure to combustion-related toxins, according to the department. Fire officials said it will be recognized as a line of duty death.

He retired last year after a 22-year career and was diagnosed several months later.

Moncrief is survived by his wife of 25 years, Bev; his daughter Tessa; and his son Trevor.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Northwest Foursquare Church, 34800 21 Ave. S.W., Federal Way.
