A Western State Hospital patient has been charged with first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault for allegedly attacking another patient with a metal lock wrapped in a sock.

Timothy Turnberg, 30, has not entered a plea.

This is not the first time he has been charged with assaulting others.

He was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2010 after being charged with first-degree murder in Whatcom County for fatally shooting a man at a bar. He pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault in April for an unrelated attack on a patient at Western State, court records show.

In the most recent incident on April 26, Turnberg is accused of attacking the victim with the sock-wrapped lock for no apparent reason. The victim suffered a laceration to his head and injuries to his left forearm, back of the neck and his left shoulder.

During an interview with Lakewood police officers, Turnberg “claimed the victim stared at him ‘wrong’ as if (the defendant) was gay,” according to charging papers.

He also allegedly told police he’d kill anyone who looked at him wrong.

  1. He’s already in custody, so what consequences can they give him for this latest attack, I wonder?
If the man is truly insane, then logic will not help.

  2. This guy could be a legit candidate for the McMurphy treatment.

  3. MrCarleone says:

There is absolutely no reason for society and the taxpayers to keep these people breathing !

  4. if this person is found guilty they’ll tranfer
him from the adult physic unit/ w.s.h. to the criminally
insane unit at western state hospital. one end of the
hospital grounds to the other. then if he is still violent..
they will send him to a prison with a physic unit.

  5. rosehaven says:

Seems like these violent attacks all stem from his thinking or believing that gays’ are or will attack him or think he is gay! Even thinking people may have “looked at his wrong” or imply such with a nasty glance..

Likely the same way they control violent offenders…..

  6. everybodiesmom says:

Am I the only one concerned about where the lock came from???

  7. assinine says:

Do they not use straight jackets anymore ? He should be in an institution for the criminally insane…..
