Central Pierce Fire & Rescue firefighters are battling a fire at a lumber yard in Spanaway.

The blaze was reported about 12:30 p.m. in the 21200 block of Mountain Highway East. Assistant Chief Randy Stephens said the flames are contained to a hopper, which is a funnel-shaped bin where materials can be stored.

This is a developing story. We will post more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE as of 2:30 p.m. The fire has been contained and crews “had to use lots and lots of fire to put it out so it must have been a big hopper,” Stephens said.

No injuries were reported. It’s unknown what caused the blaze.

So according to this, you cav fight fire with fire? I suspect the typo will be corrected and then this won’t make sense.
