Tacoma police were at a house near Tacoma Community College Friday and Saturday, conducting a search for evidence of an undisclosed crime.
Police spokesman Naveed Benjamin said Saturday that detectives were “following up on some evidentiary search” from a case. He said he did not know whether the case was recent or an older case, and he would not reveal the nature of the case.
Neighbors in the 800 block of South Hawthorne Street reported that a police forensic van and several dogs were used in the search. They said that searchers in gloves and masks were digging in the back yard of a house, and that after they left Friday night two marked police cars remained parked near the house overnight.
Police returned Saturday morning, but left about mid-day Saturday, neighbors said.
Neighbors said a married couple, possibly in their 50s, have lived in the house for more than a decade. One neighbor said police appeared to be interviewing the woman for several hours Friday. The neighbor said she had not seen the man since Thursday.
