Shortly after Tacoma police stopped by a home Wednesday looking for a forgery suspect, a fire was reported at the house.
The blaze, which started about 2:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of N. Vassault Street, was later deemed to be accidental.
Officers initially went to the home looking for a man wanted by Bellevue police for forgery and possessing stolen property. The man who answered the door was evasive but it was not the suspect, Officer Naveed Benjamin said.
“Shortly after the officers left the place, there was a fire,” Benjamin said.
Police said they found evidence of identity theft and forgery inside the house. The man who answered the door was later arrested. The Bellevue suspect was not located.
