A Puyallup man faces vehicular assault charges following an early morning injury accident on State Route 162 near South Hill.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the 53-year-old man’s eastbound Toyota crossed over the median and collided head on with a two-door Pontiac traveling westbound. The driver of that car, a 41-year-old Auburn woman, was taken to Tacoma General with injuries. Her four passengers, including three minors, were taken there as a precaution.

The driver of the wrong-way car was also injured and taken to Tacoma General. Police blame alcohol for the accident and are charging him with vehicular assault.

  1. And marijuana is illegal?

  2. TMANNOV77 says:

Of course the potheads are all over this one. Leagalize it! wah wah wah. Drink a beer and have stake hippies

  3. Rational says:

Doesn’t “vehicular assault” require “intent” on the part of the driver? I’d think a DUI and negligent driving would be more appropriate.
Also, TMANNOV77? At least all my “pothead” friends can spell “legalize” and their comments make logical sense, as opposed to your mindless rant.

It’s amazing to think that in such a serious situation, there are people that can’t help themselves but to make ridiculous comments. I was a passenger in the car that was hit, and I can’t believe that y’all can sit there and joke about being a pothead, or turn this into some sort of political propaganda, to make your plea for legalizing marijuana. The fact is, driving drunk is illegal. When you get into your car and INTENTIONALLY drive a 2 ton weapon into another car, it should be more than just a DUI, or negligent. The guy shouldn’t be able to say, well I didn’t know I was going to hit someone while I was driving drunk, and get a few treatment classes, a day in jail and fine. While one of my best friends is in the hospital for, best case scenario, a month, with years of physical therapy to follow. Maybe if we had stiffer punishments against drunk driving, there might just be less people who take the chance. Several lives were changed, all because someone made the decision to get behind the wheel of a car, while intoxicated, and he should be held accountable. It’s called personal responsibility, and I wish more people believed in it.

Also, our car contained 3 adults and 1 minor, not 3 minors as reported above.

  6. PuppyDogsButterflies says:

Um,Rational… can you seriously not critically think through why DUI is considered vehicular assault? Hopefully you were just kidding.

  7. Irritated says:

It’s just so crazy how lives can change in an instant. Every time I can’t find my keys I just think that the stars are aligning to keep me out of someones path.

It really blows my mind that a small detail like that could put you in-or take you out-of someones path.

Lakechick-I hope your friend has a speedy recovery and life can resume for all of you.
