A 19-year-old man who was shot in the head by the same bullet his friend used to commit suicide with is recovering, according to Lakewood police.

The shooting occurred the night of July 5 at an apartment in the 15500 block of Washington Avenue S.W.

Four friends were in the home drinking and smoking marijuana when a 26-year-old man pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the other men before turning it on himself and pulling the trigger, Lt. Chris Lawler said.

The gunman died. Police said the bullet passed through his head and struck the victim near the ear. He was talking and walking around when officers arrived, and was treated at Madigan Army Medical Center.

Lawler said today the victim is “doing well.”
