A Puyallup dog owners association donated $15,000 to their local police K-9 unit Monday.

Puyallup Valley Dog Fanciers made the donation after learning about the death of K-9 officer Chance last month and the cost of replacing and training the animals.

The 6-year-old shepherd died unexpectedly during a routine procedure last month.

The group presented a check to Puyallup police Chief Bryan Jeter at a ceremony Monday, which was attended by other K-9 officers and their handlers.
