UPDATE as of 6 p.m.: The search for a Buckley man who went missing while inner tubing on the Puyallup River was called off this evening.

“We will not be resuming it,” Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. “We’ve exhausted everything we can possibly do.”
He said search and rescue crews will reevaluate the situation once the water level goes down.

INITIAL POST: A man who went missing inner tubing on the Puyallup River Sunday will now likely be recovered instead of rescued, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

“At this point, it’s a recovery, unless he’s on the shoreline somewhere,” sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. “We’ve searched the shorelines and not found him. Unfortunately, we think it’s probably a recovery at this point.”

The sheriff’s swift water rescue team is continuing the search for the 29-year-old Buckley man, which resumed at daylight.

Searchers ran the river with airplanes both yesterday and today, Troyer said.

The man floated away in the 12800 block of McMillian Road just north of Orting. His friends called 911 after they noticed and they couldn’t reach him. Another inner tuber who also disappeared was later found and treated for injuries.

If you don’t have the experience,Don’t do it.Ask yourself if what you are attempting to do is worth losing your life over?

Many people consider the Puyallup River and other similar class rivers totally safe. Not so. Any moving water is potentially dangerous water if not treated with the respect and caution they call they require.

I WAS THERE! A LOT OF THE RAFTERS WERE DRINKING BEER. MY FRIEND AND I SAW AN INNERTUBE W/NOBODY WITH IT. MY FRIEND THOUGHT SHE SAW SOMEONE BOBBING UP AND DOWN. THERE WAS NOTHING WE COULD OF DONE TO HELP THE PERSON. IT’S SAD! THE PUYALLUP RIVER IS A PRETTY STRONG RIVER. I FEEL BAD FOR HIS FRIENDS THAT WERE WITH HIM!
