A 26-year-old Puyallup man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the abdomen during a dispute with another man in the parking lot of their apartment building Wednesday night, police say.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Ninth Street Southeast about 11:30 p.m., said Puyallup police Cpt. Dave McDonald.

The victim was treated by Central Pierce Fire & Rescue and taken to Tacoma General Hospital.

Police arrested the 32-year-old suspect after he fled on foot, when he returned to the scene about an hour later. He will be booked into Pierce County Jail on assault charges, police say.

McDonald said police aren’t yet sure what started the argument, but that both men seemed to be coming home from Fourth of July festivities. They did not know each other prior to the dispute.

The last McDonald checked, the victim remained in surgery.

Gosh, I can remember when Puyallup was a nice place to live and raise a family.

That’s nothing….I can remember when Lakewood was the “high rent district” with beautiful homes and no crime. Oakbrook was the new “model community” that we all dreamed of living in. Those were the “good old days”.
