A 23-year-old man in the South Hill area was hurt when a firework exploded in his face Tuesday, KIRO-TV reported.

It happened about 11 p.m. in the 13600 block of 94th Avenue East.

Randy Stephens with Central Pierce Fire & Rescue told KIRO-TV that the man lost vision in one eye and was most likely using illegal fireworks.

The man was treated at Harborview Medical Center for chest and facial injuries.
