An Auburn police car was destroyed Wednesday after catching on fire, presumably from Fourth of July fireworks.
The incident occurred at 11:15 p.m. on the Muckleshoot Reservation as several officers were trying to clear the discharge area near a fireworks stand.
“We think it’s fireworks. It seems the only obvious thing it could have been,” said police Commander Mike Hirman. “Somebody noticed flames coming from the trunk. It quickly became engulfed and destroyed the whole car.”
No one was injured.
The officer tried to extinguish the blaze, but it went up too fast. Hirman said flares kept in the trunk of the unmarked sedan ignited too quickly.
“We’ll definitely get the car replaced,” he said.
