As part of the ongoing project to improve Tacoma’s Interstate 5/Highway 16 interchange, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation have scheduled several nighttime closures over the next two weeks.
The most notable closure will be all lanes of eastbound Highway 16 approaching the Nalley Valley Viaduct.
The closures will allow crews to set concrete bridge girders in place, according to Transportation spokeswoman Claudia Bingham Baker. This new bridge will be used as a temporary detour for eastbound SR 16 traffic while the original Eastbound Nalley Valley Viaduct is demolished and rebuilt.
The closures are planned as follows:
South Tacoma Way:
Thursday and Friday, July 5-6
•Reducing traffic to one lane in each direction between Pine and Wilkeson Streets from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
