Man charged with stealing vodka, throwing bottle at security guard

It was all about vodka, but the man claimed it was chips and cookies he wanted.

Lance Bady, 43, was charged Monday with second-degree robbery and third-degree assault in connection with an incident outside a Safeway store Friday.

According to charging documents:

Three security guards watched as Bady put two bottles of vodka in his cart, and then hid them in his jacket.

After he left the store without paying for the liquor, the guards confronted Bady in the parking lot and asked him to come back inside. He swung one of the bottles at a guard and made a run for his car, but was unable to get in.

Bady then threw a vodka bottle at the guards and sprinted across the street.

A woman at a nearby restaurant told police Bady tried to get inside her vehicle. He was found shortly afterward lying in some bushes.

He told police he was just trying to buy chips and cookies, although he didn’t have money or a wallet. And he explained the night this way:

“The defendant states he was sweaty because several men were chasing him. He said he dropped his jacket because he was hot. He said he was lying down because he had fallen. He denied swinging bottles at anyone.”

Thank you Voters for this. Now if I want to get some Groceries I have to deal with this.

I suspect we’re going to be seeing a lot more of this kind of thing. Buttman’s right.

Yes because before liquor was sold in the grocery stores this kind of stuff never happened. Before liquor, people were always on their best behavior in the grocery store. No one ever had to deal with crazy in the grocery stores before liquor.
Whatever, I saw somebody assault a store employee with a bag of chips before, this stuff isn’t new people.

As a grocery store employee, this goes on all the day long; We lock up the cigarettes and pregnancy tests but the alcohol is in it’s own little dark aisle not all that far from the doors. Ludicrous.

  5. FletchFFletch says:

Is there a way to get high on pregnancy tests?

Do any editors read these before they’re posted? This happened at “a” Safeway store. Um, which Safeway? I mean, at least tell us WHERE this happened!

Certainly caught Bady in the act! WHAT A NAME. Addition is deadly progression. Hope he gets to detox and follow up treatment.
