Tacoma police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who hid out in a Target store to steal more than $15,000 worth of Ipads and accessories.

The burglary occurred June 3 at the Target store, 23rd Street South, at the corner of Union Avenue.

Police say a man entered the store about 8:30 p.m. and hid behind several large boxes until the store closed. Around midnight, he took several items of luggage from the shelves, smashed multiple display cases and loaded the luggage with electronics.

He then broke open a glass door and fled on foot, heading west toward Union Avenue.

The burglar dropped a piece of luggage filled with stolen goods as he escaped.

Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offerings up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and charging of the suspect. Anonymous tips can be called into 253-591-5959.

The burglar is a black man about 20 years old with a light complexion and slender build. He was wearing a black and white checkered hooded coat, light colored pants, black shoes, white gloves and a baseball cap with a red bill.

The store is so concerned with security that they install an elaborate camera system but not so concerned that they would check to see if people were standing behind a bunch of cardboard boxes.

I shop quite often at Target on union and steele. As I was leaving the store before I got to the exit doors ,two men stop me because I did not have one item in a bag;Demanding a recipt which took a minute to find since I had several bags. The lady who waited on me told them I had purchase that item,it was too bulky to bag. They were digging in my bags which was very embarrsing.I gave them the receipt. No apology,I haven’t been back.

We were at Frey’s in Oregon and two exit security guards check every bag of departing customers. It is the routine policy there, which was over ten years ago.

I thought they tag your box or tape a purchase ticket to them. I’ve never been in a Target Store.

Hopefully this destructive burglar will be caught soon!
