Animal control says it confiscated about 40 cats earlier this month from a Spanaway home that it took more than 120 cats from in 2009.

Officials rounded up most of the cats June 13 and set live traps that captured several more the following week, said animal control supervisor Brian Boman. He described the animals as wild.

Animal control responded after receiving a complaint about many cats coming and going from the house.

The woman who owned the animals will not be prosecuted, because the cats were all healthy. Prosecuting for animal cruelty requires that the animals have been in pain and suffering, Boman said.

He added that animal control will continue to monitor the house.

The cats were taken to the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County.
