UPDATE: The suspected bomb was rendered safe, and officials are doing forensic work to determine where it came from, Pierce County sheriff’s detective Sgt. Jerry Bates said.
Pierce County sheriff’s bomb squad is responding to reports of a possible pipe bomb found in the trunk of a vehicle parked at a wrecking yard in the 21400 block of state Route 161.
Wrecking yard employees found the suspected bomb about 4 p.m.
