Six people were displaced this afternoon when a kitchen fire damaged a home in East Tacoma.

Firefighters from Tacoma and Central Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to the 1,452-square-foot house in the 6600 block of E. Roosevelt and found smoke coming from the front and side of the home.

The residents were able to escape safely and crews quickly doused the flames just after 2 p.m.

The Red Cross is assisting four adults and two children who were displaced.

Investigators are trying to determine what started the blaze.
