A task force will be conducting a rescue training drill in Puyallup this week.
Washington Task Force 1 focuses on saving people from damaged buildings during large disasters in Pierce County. The FEMA Urban Search and Rescue team is sponsored by Pierce County Department of Emergency Management.
Today through Thursday, the task force will practice cutting through steel and concrete and setting up rigging so they’re prepared to remove debris during disasters.
The training is taking place at Randles Sand and Gravel, 19209 Canyon Road East.
The task force was established in 1991 and has deployed on multiple disasters, including Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005; Shuttle Columbia recovery in 2003; 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center in 2001.
