UPDATED at 6:57 a.m.

A woman was injured early today after her car hit the front wheels of a rail car in the Tideflats.

Tacoma firefighters had to extricate the woman from the car. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the Tacoma Fire Department reported.

The rail car was being moved across the street to a plant for processing in the 1900 block of Marine View Drive.  Rail cars filled with chlorine and sodium hydroxide are occasionally shuttled across the street to the plant.

A flagger was helping with the move about 2:30 a.m. today.

A woman slowed down but didn’t stop, the Fire Department reported. She hit the front wheels of a rail car.

The woman’s car sustained significant damage.
