The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department took the missing person report on Rita Kagawa May 23.
Her brother and sister-in-law, who live two miles from her in Spanaway, grew concerned after Kagawa’s boss called to say she had missed three days of work stocking shelves at a local Walmart.
Her family said it is out of character for Kagawa to disappear without telling anyone, especially her 12-year-old daughter, who lives with Kagawa’s ex-husband. Kagawa’s son, a soldier deployed in Afghanistan, said he has not heard from his mother either.
The last known person to have seen Kagawa was her ex-husband on May 18. He also told family members that Kagawa had sent their daughter text messages Friday.
Volunteers will gather at noon Saturday in a parking lot at the corner of Pacific Avenue South and Military Road South to pass out fliers on Kagawa’s disappearance.
