Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old woman with causing a wreck Saturday morning that injured another driver.
Sylola C. Cloud was arraigned Tuesday on vehicular assault and failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident. The Tacoma woman was ordered held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Charging documents provide the following information.
Witnesses reported that a black Lincoln Mark VII rear-ended a silver Kia Spectra just after 6:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of South 48th and South M streets. A third car also was hit and went up onto a sidewalk.
Witnesses reported the occupants of the Lincoln got out and left.
The driver of the Kia had to be extricated by Tacoma firefighters. She was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment.
Tacoma police spotted a woman matching the description of the Lincoln driver. She was running east through yards in the 5000 block of South J Street.
Officers arrested the woman a short time later after finding her hiding near a home.
The woman, later identified as Cloud, said she didn’t want to go to jail. She thought she’d killed the other driver.
Officers noted a strong smell of intoxicants on her breath. When asked how much she’d had to drink, Cloud responded, “(expletive) too much.”
Officers also located a front-seat passenger who had ran from the Lincoln. He was booked on an outstanding warrant.
