UPDATED at 1:56 p.m.

Two men found dead in a South Hill home Monday morning had been shot in the head, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office reported today.

The office has ruled both men – Jeffrey Poling, a 36-year-old Spanaway resident, and Travis Dennis, a 32-year-old Puyallup resident – were homicide victims.

Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said investigators believe the two were targeted but don’t know why. They have found no signs of forced entry to the home.

“We have some leads we are following up on,” he said.

Detectives have discovered several guns – including an AK-47 and AR-15 – as well as a computer tower are missing from the home.

Dennis’ father went to the home in the 9400 block of 175th Street Court East on Monday morning after he could not get a hold of his son, Troyer said. The father spotted a body on the floor and called 911.

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies busted into the home and found the two victims in the same room. They also found bulletproof vests, weapons and  ammunition throughout the two-story home and a large eel in a commercial-sized fish tank in the garage.

Detectives believe Dennis and Poling were killed sometime Sunday night.

“We are still working to nail down the time frame,” Troyer said.

Troyer said deputies had been to the house in January to take a report on a stolen car. There had been no other recent police calls to the house.

Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and charges filed in the double slaying. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

Reach Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959.

Two men with heretofore no violations, have been murdered. The weapons missing are not illegal.

  4. When you feel the urge to judge just think to yourself “Only by the grace of God (or whoever you choose to worship)” that is the ONLY reason your situation is any better…

…and an eel? Seriously? Did the reporter have a word count he had to reach?

  6. whitman411 says:

Guns, body armor, shots fired. Sounds like they might have been cops.

  7. NineInchNachosII says:

but what about the eel ? is it an electric eel ?

  8. grumpyoldman says:

Well, the body armor did them no good to have !! …. nor did all the weapons help their survival.

These two guys were loved by many, and their families & friends lives have been shattered. Please don’t blame the victims here for being murdered, you should write to the Pierce County Sheriff’s office, and Puyallup Police Dept, and put pressure on them to solve this crime. We can’t have evil running around murdering folks….and no one has been caught yet for this crime….blame the killer(s) that did this, not the victims.

  10. Sounds like two people dead and the murderers on the lose. Police really need to catch these people. I don’t know why them having legal guns in house is a big deal I have guns and have had them my whole life….my heart aches for all the loved ones …may god hold the family’s and friends tight…

please be respectful when leaving a comment..these men were my friends. They were good men with loving families and friends that are hurting. Put yourself in their shoes before you make stupid comments.
