Puyallup police are searching for a 37-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl he knows.
Pierce County prosecutors charged Manuel Salvador Cortes last month with two counts of second-degree rape. A warrant has been issued for his arrest and detectives fear he might be trying to leave the state.
Prosecutors allege Cortes sexually assaulted the girl inside her apartment the morning of April 21. The 14-year-old girl reported the assault to the police.
Cortes moved out of the apartment and stopped going to work, police reported. Prosecutors filed charges three days after the alleged rape.
Cortes is 6 feet 1 and 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He’s also used the name Gabriel Garcia Torres in the past.
Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to Cortes’ arrest. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
