Puyallup police are searching for a 37-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl he knows.

Pierce County prosecutors charged Manuel Salvador Cortes last month with two counts of second-degree rape. A warrant has been issued for his arrest and detectives fear he might be trying to leave the state.

Prosecutors allege Cortes sexually assaulted the girl inside her apartment the morning of April 21. The 14-year-old girl reported the assault to the police.

Cortes moved out of the apartment and stopped going to work, police reported. Prosecutors filed charges three days after the alleged rape.

Cortes is 6 feet 1 and 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He’s also used the name Gabriel Garcia Torres in the past.

Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to Cortes’ arrest. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

Reach Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959.

Why was he in the girl’s apartment in the first place?
Was there another adult living there, a mom, a dad?
    This story needs more information.

Chances are this guy is not from around here and likely an illegal immigrant. After he is convicted and served his sentence, he should be promptly deported. In the meantime, we should stop attracting people like him to Washington State with easy driver’s licenses and generous benefits.

Hey, not to worry. She wasn’t wearing a burka and invited the attack. /sarc

  5. Another poor illegal alien just trying to feed his family back home. We should give him sanctuary – instead we’re persecuting him because we’re racists.

    Is that Troyer Jr.?

Here again, is another reason, that prostitution should be legalized and regulated. This issue should be a slam dunk, however, realism has a false face in Society. There are “hoe” houses throughout the city/county with official and unofficial sanction, so, why continue the charade about the oldest “profession” on the planet. It certainly would demish men/women standing on street corners of the city/county, i.e. parks, and lessen venereal and related diseases. As for Mr. Cortes nee Torres, it may be the individuals know/knew each other. As for the other preconceived ideas and stereotypes, I am remiss from such thinking. Again, in this Country, one is guilty before the fact, and not after the fact.

So, until prostitution is legalized, rape is OK?
