UPDATE, as of 1:09 p.m.: Pierce County sheriff’s detectives were called to a house in the 15500 block of Spanaway Loop Road about 10 p.m. Monday to investigate a loud disturbance.
“911 reports were of glass breaking and multiple people screaming,” Troyer said.
Deputies found a man and woman lying on the floor with head wounds and the couple’s 39-year-old son standing in the room screaming, Troyer said.
The son did not follow deputies’ instructions, despite having guns pointed at him, and had to be physically restrained, Troyer said. Once he was under control, deputies rendered first aid to the victims, Troyer said.
Investigators later learned the man had beaten his parents severely – his mother with a dining-room chair, his father with a vacuum cleaner. His 56-year-old mother later died at St. Joseph Medical Center. His 64-year-old father also was hospitalized but is expected to survive.
The son, whom The News Tribune is not naming because he’s not yet been charged, was booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of first-degree murder and first-degree assault.

A woman apparently was severely beaten by her son late last night and died early this morning, Troyer said. The woman’s husband also was attacked and remains hospitalized.
The son is in custody for investigation of murder, Troyer said. Detectives believe he might have been high on drugs when he allegedly attacked his parents, Troyer added.
