Tacoma police officers were called to a South End bar early today after witnesses reported that more than 100 people were involved in a fight.

The fighting took place across the street from the bar in the 8400 block of South Hosmer Street just after 2 a.m., Tacoma police reported.

Security guards from Latitude 84 sprayed the crowd with pepper spray. Many dispersed before Tacoma officers arrived.

Those who remained were not cooperative with Tacoma police and refused to provide information about the fight, police said.

No injuries or arrests were reported.

Other than the location there wasn’t much information here.

That is a problem bar. Its pretty often that I hear about trouble at this place. What’s up?

  3. Thedavenports says:

The bar is not the problem….. Everyone if blaming these establishments for a few losers that ruin every ones night out early morning….we just read less than two days ago subway in the same plaza got robbed….let me guess thats a bad place too huh? Or what about banks and corner stores and any other place that some idiot deems necessary to rob whats up with that or those places? dont just target clubs crime and violence is not the establishment attraction…..the attract bill money. PLACE THE BLAME WHERE IT BELONGS. Not on the police or the employer/employees…on stupid drunk individuals who clearly dont value life like we do!

Sorry, @thedavenports. This is Washington State. No accountability here. Blame is placed on those who have the most money.

Nothing good happens in this town after 11pm….go home and stay safe.

There should be a midnight curfew. What needs to get done can surely be accomplished by 12AM.

  7. cking9900 says:

Well, there are plenty of losers out there looking for opportunities to commit crime, that’s for sure. There are also plenty of Tacoma establishments where you don’t read in the paper about huge brawls in the parking lot involving police and tear gas. It seems like there are a select few where these types of things happen. Latitude happens to be one I’ve read about before. Is it the type of crowd it draws? The troublemakers don’t hang out everywhere. Do they over serve their patrons? Just wondering….

  8. look up the City of Tacoma crime stats and the Tacoma Fire Dept response to calls to the address of the bar in question-it speaks volumes

  9. I am the manager of the Latitude 84. It is unfortunate that bad things happen and rather than place blame elsewhere, I take responsibility for the actions of this establishment. As outsiders looking in, it is easy to judge when you don’t know the whole story. Did you know that my security officers responded over to the hotel across the street to ensure that everyone made it to their vehicle. This fight/brawl in question is grossly exaggerated. There was an altercation between seven people (all females) when Latitude 84 security attempted to break up the incident. Not the 100 person brawl stated or reported. It is easy to report something that one did not witness. Yes, OC spray was used by security who are clearly trained and obviously the troublemakers dispersed. It should be noted that the police arrived on the scene and there was no fight for them to break up as we did it. We are like any other business out here, we cooperate fully with every agency, and the crime stats are not just for this business, it includes all crimes and requests for assistance on this whole block, criminal, traffic etc. Thank you.

MzSeze, Can we see surveilence photos of the fight? Also, I have not been in Latitude but do your security guards carry pistols (I heard this from a friend)? Wouldn’t that be due to the type of clientele that frequent your establishment?

  11. WonTonsInMySoup says:

What kind of OC training do your guards go through? And who administers this training?

  12. WonTons, surveillance photos… This altercation was not at the bar. My security broke up what was going on. Security as well as myself have been trained in the use of OC, through the state of Washington on my end and theirs comes through a private company. As far as pistols, there are no pistols carried by security. Firearms are not allowed. Our clientele is no different than any other establishment, there are fights at every place, it just seems that we are being unfairly placed in the limelight to deal with public scrutiny. The news does not report any of the good things we have done, fundraisers and donations. It’s unfortunate that the news is a great place for misery to find company.

@MzSeze Nicely put! Lat use to be my hang out, still would be if I lived closer

I’m glad to see the owner of the bar relayed what really happens ,although we shouldnt have to correct our stories from our own law enforcement. Whom are suppose to keep us safe rather than make things sound a whole lot worse than they are. Thank you Tacoma PD for responding. Let’s not make this town scarier than it already is
