West Pierce Fire & Rescue firefighters doused the flames inside a Lakewood home Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 4800 block of 121st Street Southwest just after 12:15 p.m. A neighbor went inside to rescue a pet bird and alert any occupants, West Pierce Fire & Rescue reported.

Firefighters had the blaze under control by 1 p.m.

The fire had started on the second floor and spread. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

No injuries were reported. The fire caused $50,000 damage, the fire department reported.
