UPDATED at 12:13 p.m.

The state Department of Transportation and Washington State Patrol are searching for the owner of two dogs found along Interstate 5 this morning.

An incident response worker spotted the dogs on the shoulder of I-5 near Bridgeport Way in Lakewood. They were not in a vehicle.

“They were very friendly dogs,” trooper Guy Gill said. “They didn’t run away.”

The dogs got into the worker’s truck and she drove them off the freeway.

The dogs are now in the care of Lakewood animal control until their owner can be found.

Gill said the dogs were not wearing collars and didn’t have microchips.

“We have nothing to identify them at all,” Gill said.

He said they didn’t know if the dogs came from a neighborhood near the freeway or from a car that had been headed down I-5.

Troopers responded to a crash on I-5 around the time the dogs were found.

“But it was further south,” Gill noted.

  1. Poor babies…..they are adorable. They deserve a kind and loving home and as cute as they are I believe it won’t be long before they have one.

  2. WOW….I have a dog just like them. If they need a home I would love to give them a home.

  3. If they were really abandoned and didn’t just wander off a pox on the person who did that.

I guess saying two lost pupppies just doesn’t illicit the same response and jumping to the conclusion that they were abandoned.

surveyor1 if you had any idea how many dogs, especially of this breed type, are abandoned around here you would be amazed. It’s very sad, but a reality.
I hope these two little pups find a good home with people who won’t abandon them on the side of a freeway.

  6. They look like Shih Tzu’s, and I can’t imagine anyone tossing away 2 $500 dogs. Chances are they’re chipped.

    They look older than puppies.

Notice they changed the article to read “dogs” instead of “puppies.” It’s too bad dogs don’t illicit the same response as puppies, but that’s life. We still must tell the truth.

  9. These two were in the parking lot of my business around 7 am.. Very friendly.. I was preparing a place to get them inside and dried off, and I also had some food for them, but a guy walked by on SW Pacific Hwy and they took off after him.. I thought he was the owner…
Very nice dogs.. The orange fured one was a bit stand offish.. But the McTavish one was jumping all over me.. I am so glad that they found their way to the shelter.. Surely someone will claim them, but if not, I will take these two in a heart beat.. My peek a poo will just have to adjust…

These dogs weren’t abandoned. As it turns out, they escaped their home when a repairman left the door ajar. And their owner had been looking everywhere. Thankfully she saw this article, and was able to claim them at the Humane Society.
